Team-based Simulations as “Multi-Dimensional Learning Platforms”

One of the important benefits of team-based business simulations which is sometimes overlooked is the fact that, aside from the learning opportunities based on the knowledge directly embedded in the simulation, they can also act as great observatories of human behaviour.

Simulation participants tend to very quickly forget it is just a simulation, and any prior resolutions they made about being on their best behaviours, and act exactly as they would in totally live situations which provides a wealth of useful information for a team coach or facilitator.

So as well as looking at the direct learning from the specific subject area of the simulation we should also consider the indirect dimensions of learning the simulation can be a “platform” for including:

  1. Working in Teams
  2. Individual Styles
  3. Facilitation and Role Plays
  4. Market Updates and Reacting to Change/Crises.
