We recently offered a mini version of a free business simulation to Publicis Re:Sources in London for a summer work experience programme. The simulation, for students from Copthall School, enabled them to gain new decision-making skills in a realistic business scenario, preparing them for their future careers.

For the past three years, Business Simulations has offered this simulation as a charitable endeavour, in our ongoing efforts to support young entrepreneurs.

The business simulation was facilitated for the students by Chris Crother, managing director Publicis Re:Sources UK, Ireland and the Netherlands, and the HR team for Publicis Re:Sources UK. We spoke with Keshia Malone, HR officer to find out more about the business simulation experience.

We ran the simulation on day one of the programme, and it helped the girls to engage, collaborate and get geared up for their big week ahead. The overall response was overwhelmingly positive, and from watching the girls in the room, I can say this is a very engaging simulation.

Chris and Keshia organised the group of girls into four teams. The simulation tasked the teams to lead a coffee shop business in a competitive market, while making fast decisions and analysing the results of their go-to-market strategies. In the post-event survey, Keshia said that all four teams rated the simulation as ‘excellent’.

The simulation helped students to develop key skills such as:

  • Strategic thinking
  • Adaptability
  • Teamwork
  • Communication
  • Critical thinking

They found the game highly realistic, especially in the way that changing strategies and making real-time decisions directly impacted their market share. One team noted, "It gave a realistic feel to how business works, and how much goes on behind it."

Business Simulations’ MD Scott Thompson said, “This was a unique experience for students to conduct a mini version of one of our business simulations, which are typically used to prepare up-and-coming business leaders with improved business acumen skills. We’re delighted to give some aspirational young people the chance to learn about the business world with this engaging, enjoyable and immersive experience.”
